A message from our Senior Warden
We recently completed our scheduled second round of small group meetings. The vestry and clergy wish to thank all who participated by attending the congregational meetings and/or small group meetings.

We are truly grateful that you availed yourselves of these opportunities to be heard. Your participation is greatly appreciated and the information you provided is invaluable. Although there is a great divergence in the opinions held, most of the feedback we received was positive, providing an opportunity to disseminate facts, dispel rumors, and to encourage communication that will promote harmony -- strengthening our church community.

Where are we now, and where are we heading? Thanks to Mother Natalie and Deacon Lorna, for continuing our liturgical and spiritual leadership. Bishop Peter Eaton will be visiting us on August 25 and 26. On Tuesday, August 21 st through Tuesday, August 28 th we plan to hold a series of congregational retreats that will provide an opportunity to study the scriptures and imagine the future of St. M&M! Sign up sheets are now available in the church.

If you would like to participate in one of our ministries or have a great idea about how to make our church a more loving, welcoming place, please feel free to speak with me or another member of the vestry, Mother Natalie or Deacon Lorna and/or attend our future meetings.
Blessings and love,

Janice D. Villiers
Senior Warden

Barbecue time!
Please attend the Brotherhood of St. Andrew’s BBQ on July 21 st and get to know the person who sits a few rows ahead of you, or someone who attends one of our other services!! This event will give us an opportunity to celebrate Mother Natalie’s birthday on the 21 st , and the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, which is on July 22nd, the first anniversary of her coming to be our Associate Rector.

Book Club
On Monday, July 23, at 7:00 pm we will be discussing the book, Same Kind of Different as Me, by Ron Hall and Denver Moore.

Same Kind of Different as Me is a tale told in two unique voices – Ron Hall & Denver Moore – weaving two completely different life experiences into one common journey where both men learn “whether we is rich or poor or something in between this earth ain’t no final restin’ place. So in a way, we is all homeless-just workin’ our way toward home.” .
- ( Partial Amazon description . )
All are welcome , even if you haven’t read the book!
Our Summer So Far
We are grateful for the recent Pre-School Work Day which brought out many parishioners who worked hard painting the classrooms, washing toys, doing miscellaneous other tasks and enjoying a delicious lunch together.

The Cursillo Dinner Dance raised one thousand and five dollars ($1,005.00) and gave parishioners from each of our services the rare opportunity to get together and have a wonderful time!!

Our outreach ministries continue – Camerata Di Magdelena raised a total of five thousand and thirty five dollars ($5,035.00) to benefit The Holy Grill of St. Nicholas and we continue to volunteer at St. Laurence Chapel monthly.
Carmen Schentrup Memorial Award
A new memorial award in Carmen Schentrup's name has been announced by the  Florida Federation of Music Clubs  (FFMC) who  hold an annual statewide competition for students who have received a Superior rating in their district festivals.

To date, a cash award has been given to the winners of the two most advanced solo levels.

The third most advanced solo level, Very Difficult, is the level Carmen played at the district in February. The award for that level will be called the Carmen Schentrup Memorial Award  and will be given annually.

Donations are being accepted to fund this award. The Federation must have an endowment of $5,000 to be able to present the winner with the interest each year.

Those who are inclined to donate should send a check made payable to FFMC, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization, to
FFMC Treasurer,
P.O. Box 357275
Gainesville, FL 32635.

Indicate on the "for" line: Carmen Schentrup Memorial. All donations are tax deductible; a receipt will be issued to each individual.

Thank you for your consideration of this great honor for Carmen.
Advocacy & Outreach (A&O): St Laurence Chapel
St Mary Magdalene has a long relationship with St Laurence Chapel and Shelter. The shelter has recently expanded its mission to giving overnight accommodation to its clients thus increasing their needs. A & O is attempting to meet some of these needs by collecting a specific item each month. There is a basket in the narthex for your donations.

The summer collection is men’s sneakers, size 11+ and regular sized bath towels

New toiletries are always needed
A&O Unity Shirt
If you haven’t already purchased your St Mary Magdalene t-shirts, order forms are in the back of the church.

Next Week's Readings
Propers for the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost (Year B) :
Note : There are two different tracks during the Season after Pentecost, which in some traditions is called Ordinary Time .
Track 1 features First Readings that are semi-continuous, that is they follow the stories of God’s actions with the people of Israel spread out over multiple weeks. This is the track that most congregations and denominations follow today.
Track 2 features readings that are selected to complement the Gospel reading for the day, sharing a similar subject or theme. In both cases the psalm or canticle that follows the First Reading is chosen because it comments on or reflects aspects of the First Reading.
We follow the readings from Track 1.
