St. Mary Magdalene Preschool

under the direction of Sherry Kross

Goal:

The goal of St. Mary Magdalene Preschool is to provide children with a school environment where they are nurtured and treated with Christian love and respect.  We will challenge them to learn and master new skills, and we will increase their self-esteem by showing them in a multitude of ways that God has made them unique and special.

Curriculum:

The work of children is play.  With that in mind, we use a developmentally appropriate teaching style.  That means your child will have a chance to explore and experiment in a warm, loving atmosphere.  Arts and crafts, stories, puzzles, music, dramatic play and hands-on projects are just a few of the ways we will stimulate your child's creativity and enthusiasm for learning.  Each open-ended activity is geared to promote self-esteem and independent thinking.  Throughout your child's school career there will be pressure to succeed.  In our school, we strive to provide your child with an opportunity to discover they can enjoy school and accomplish great things.  This is their first chance to see themselves as students and we want them to acknowledge their abilities with confidence.  We see the leaders of tomorrow in the children's faces and know the importance of this time.  They deserve nothing but the best.

At St. Mary Magdalene Preschool we believe all children are gifts of God and we strive to teach the children the lesson that God loves them just the way they are.  We have Chapel once a week during which time the children sing Bible songs, hear a Bible story and say the Lord's prayer.  We teach the basic Christian principles of love and respect.

"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me."  (Matthew 18:5)

Classes:

Preschool hours are from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  There are three classes available in our school.  The yearly registration fee for each student is $100 payable upon registration and non-refundable.  The tuition is paid on a monthly basis and must be received prior to the first day of each month.

Costs are as follows:

Three day 3yr. olds (M, W, F)        $195

Five day 3yr. olds (M - F)                 $275

Three day 4yr. olds (M, W, F)        $195

Five day 4yr. olds (M - F)                 $275

The second child discount will be a $25 reduction in the lower of the monthly tuitions paid by a family. There is a $5 per day late charge if tuition has not been received by the first day of the month.  There will be a charge of $25 for returned checks.

Children must be toilet trained before the first day of school.

Discipline:

We practice preventative discipline.  Children who are busy enjoying themselves are far less apt to have behavioral problems.  Should a problem arise, it will be handled in a loving manner and the child will discuss the matter with the teacher.  At no time will a child be spanked or handled in an inappropriate manner while being disciplined.  Discipline will be handled by the teacher or Director in the following manner:

                                        •     positive intervention

                                        •    verbal warning

                                        •    removal from classroom activities (thinking chair, time out)

                                        •    referral to Director

                                        •    Parent-Teacher conference

Children in our school help to set the rules and discuss the consequences of negative choices.  They learn very quickly that they can control the choices they make.  Given that power, most children prefer to enjoy positive results.

Additional Information:

The "dress code" for preschool is comfortable older play clothes.  The work we do here can be messy.  We also request that your child wear closed-toe rubber-soled shoes for safety on the playground.  No sandals or cowboy boots please.

We do have an optional Extended Day program on Mondays through Fridays from Noon to 2pm.  Sing ups are on a "first come, first serve" basis on the board in the main hallway.  There is a $8.00 charge per day.  Space is limited.

St. Mary Magdalene Preschool is a proud recipient of the Broward County Child Care Licensing and Enforcement Section's Gold Seal Award of Excellence for our quality child care services.  This is a real honor and we have worked very diligently to accomplish this level of care for our children.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6
