The Vine of Saint Mary Magdalene

Episcopal Church

The Vine of St. Mary Magdalene is the new name given to the parish’s long-term endowment fund. We have rechristened our planned giving program and structured it so that every parish member can actively participate in building an endowment fund which will benefit the parish and its ministries for future generations.

We will establish The Vine of Saint Mary Magdalene by merging the current balance of our long-term giving account of $150,000 with an additional commitment of new pledged assets from parish families. Commitments are being pledged through cash,

gifts, annunities, investment proceeds, wills and trust distributions. We already have firm commitments from six families who have taken tangible steps toward planting new seeds of growth. You may either make annual gifts to the fund each year, or provide for the church in the future through your will, trust or estate.

Every parishioner is encouraged to participate. There is no gift which would be considered too small. Through the participation of many, and the passage of time, growth can be both abundant and fruitful.

The symbols of a Vine and Cross are symbols and reminders of our faith and the parables through which Jesus taught his disciples of the importance of tending to the care and nurture of the gifts bestowed upon us by God throughout our lives. The harvest of the nurtured legacies we plant and continually tend will grow into perpetuity and serve our children, friends and future members for generations.

The Book of Common Prayer, on page 445, is specific in directing all Episcopalians to make provisions to care for the future needs of both your family and the Church. Providing for the Church both during our lifetime, and after, reflects the importance with which we honor God’s everlasting commitment to us, his disciples.

The Vestry has adopted a resolution forming the explicit guidelines by which the Vine of Saint Mary Magdalene will be managed.  Long-term giving is a separate means by which we support the legacy of our life in Christ, and is distinguishable from every member’s annual pledge. We can provide you with the guidance through which your family attorney can structure your giving. In the absence of a will, we can provide you with a list of attorneys who can guide you through the process at a nominal cost.

Over time, the Vine’s funds will serve to prayerfully enhance our ability to carry on the ministries of the parish each year. Additionally, the vestry will also identify specific memorial giving and naming opportunities to further enhance and support the church’s physical assets such as classrooms and buildings.

I hope that you will allow me the opportunity to sit and further discuss our shared vision for the future of God’s ministry at St. Mary Magdalene.

Yours in Christ,

Steve Read
