The Parish of St. Mary Magdalene Church was organized in 1960, and the first building erected in 1962 in Margate was the parish home until the current structure in Coral Springs was begun in 1974. The parish celebrated Easter Mass 1975, in its brand new sanctuary and the building was officially dedicated on May 11, 1975. From its inception, the parish's mission was to serve the spiritual and community needs of the residents of Coral Springs and the surrounding communities in Northwest Broward County. In addition to worship, at various times, the parish has also provided community centered activities. Today the parish membership represent many different ethnic groups from equally diverse religious histories.
Outside the United States, Episcopalians are known as Anglicans, and worldwide we number about 61 million. All of us everywhere worship using modern versions of the Book of Common Prayer, whose roots go back to the first edition in 1549. The church was determined, through the creation of this Book, that lay people would participate in all the liturgy, not simply have it performed for them by the clergy. We continue that tradition of involvement, using the 1979 American edition. We provide a service bulletin or guide at Sunday worship services. Within each bulletin are copies of the appointed Scripture readings for the day. We encourage everyone to take these inserts home so they may later re-read them and reflect on the lessons for the day.
